Contest Season in Full Swing

Well the contest season is in full swing; the Vans world cup just finished up at Sunset and we only have the Pipemasters left to go. I think we have to say the waves were better last month, but November produced a few nice days. We had a lot of north swells in November. On Friday Lanis was pretty epic and yesterday we finally got a decent west swell but it came with strong SW wind. It cleaned up today and was really nice as the swell started to veer north again. Backdoor was pretty good. Looks like Pipe will produce a decent swell for the first day of the holding period of the Pipemasters. Lets get this show on the road! It was so crowded out there this morning, the guys looked like ants.

In the last couple years, it seems that the whole Triple Crown has been turned over to the keikis as they tend to be the most dominant population here on the Northshore. Every parent wants their kid to be the next John John, and why not? On the other hand guys like Kelly and Sunny Garcia keep winning contests in their forties while Michael and Derek Ho still get some of the best waves on the biggest days at Pipe. I guess we can forget growing old gracefully so long as these guys are around, but it sure is inspiring all the rest of us to keep going. These days no one gets left out, girls, boys, men and women are all a part of the show when the Triple Crown comes to town.

This morning the winds were so still, I could hear the guys commentating the Sunset contest while I was surfing out Pipe. What a trip. I could see the vog floating behind the trees. It was so thick, you could not see an inkling of Kaena point. Before these SW winds came it was starting to get cold so you can tell it is getting close to Christmas.

See you in the pack!
