Non stop waves!
By Lane
My last blog was on October 9th just when the big swell was hitting. The first day rose to solid 15 foot sets by the evening and then continued with a few bigger ones on Wednesday the 10th. Since then we have had fun waves with epic conditions. The big swell took all the sand from Pipe so e the waves have been pretty fun there. There is still a pile of sand that needs to be moved by Gums, but hopefully the next swell will take it. Last week the waves came up Wednesday evening and Thursday was 3-5 feet with solid 6 foot sets. The swell dropped quick and was pretty small by the next day, but it has stayed in the 1-3 foot range through today. While country looks like its slowing down for the rest of the week, town should kick up again just to keep the wave machine pumping.
Kamehameha schools had their October sample sale today which raises money for the surf club to go to states. You can check out the Kamehameha surf team on Facebook.
The kids have been on it with all these early swells. Last Thursday they were out early at Pipe and this evening they had a tent set up a Backdoor. I remember when the Northshore was not considered a nice place for kids and now it is swarming with them. My, how times have changed. The Xcel starts in about 10 days so the party is about to get started. It has been so enjoyable lately with just the locals in the water sharing waves, perfect conditions and water so clear you can see the fish swimming through the caves. What a nice start to the Northshore season!
